A SPEED LIMIT DEVICE (SLD) OR SPEED GOVERNOR means a device whose primary function is to control the speed of the engine in order to limit the vehicle speed to the pre-specified value.
Speed has been identified as key risk factor in road traffic injuries, influencing both the risk of road traffic crashes and the severity of the injures that result from them. Higher speeds lead to greater risk of a crash and a greater probability of serious injury if one occurs. This is because, as speed increases, so does the distance traveled during the drive’s reaction time and the distance needed to stop. At higher speed, driver’s errors are also magnified.
Fuel based : Speed Governor Vehicle speed is controlled by restricting the fuel supply to the Engine when the preset speed is reached. The ECU – Electronic Control Unit continuously receives speed data from speed sensor mounted on Gearbox & compares the actual driving speed with the preset speed and restricts fuel flow through fuel solenoid when set speed is reached.
Cable based : The electronic control unit compares the actual driving speed with the set speed. The speed is computed by mean of processing the speed signals from the Hall Effect Sensors mounted on the Gear Box. When the actual speed approaches the set speed the electronic control unit transmits command to the motor actuator to control the movement of the fuel control lever on the injection pump and restricts the fuel supply.
Fly by Wire : It is a fully electronic device based on Integrated circuit receives power supply though an ignition switch. Accepts Speeds Signal from Vehicle Speed Sensor fitted on Gear Box or through Vehicle CAN Bus. Position Sensors of Accelerator Paddle are interfaced to reading the accelerator paddle travel/displacement and provides control output of Engine Management System of Vehicle of control the Vehicle Speed.
